Before your session
Newborns are best photographed between Day 5 and Day 10 (or at least under two weeks of age), therefore the best time to schedule a newborn session is one week after your due date. However, adjustments can be made if your baby does decide to arrive earlier than expected or goes past their due date. All newborn sessions include use of knit suits, baby swaddle wraps and accessories.
For all bookings, a $150 deposit is due at time of booking to secure your spot. This deposit is your session fee and is non-refundable. This covers my time and does not include any images or prints. A collection must be chosen prior to the session and your session fee is included in all collections. Full payment is due three (3) business days before your session. Any payment plans must be arranged with Amy Koina prior to your session. Additional products can be purchased following your session and must be paid in full at the time of ordering.
Upon arrival, Amy Koina Photography will provide you with the space to feed your baby as this will help kickstart their sleep cycle for their newborn session. Even if you are breastfeeding, it is a good idea to bring a spare bottle or two of expressed milk or formula along to your session to top baby up in between poses. A baby pacifier (for short term use) can also help settle baby in between photos. We have plenty of spare newborn nappies, baby wipes, hand sanitiser to make things a little easier. Refreshments are available however feel free to bring a packed lunch with you.
Please Note:
Your diet can affect your breastmilk and consequently, your newborn session. To ensure your baby stays settled, please avoid the following foods for at least 24-48 hours prior to your session. These include: Brassica oleracea, citrus fruits and their juices, caffeine, spices, onion, garlic and fizzy soft drinks.
During your session
Please allow a minimum of 2-3 hours for your newborn session. Between feeding, nappy changes, wrapping, posing, cuddles and settling we are often left with little photography time. Allowing for more time permits for more photo opportunities. My home studio is small and kept cosy warm so that your new baby can feel comfortable. Ideally, once your baby has started their sleep cycle, the session will include a combination of posing baby on a beanbag, close ups shots of little fingers and toes, a few styled setups with props, some family shots (optional) and shooting on the perfect posie to create some stunning digital composites. Digital composites include photographing your baby on the soft perfect posie which is later superimposed into another digital image with Adobe Photoshop.
After your session
Following your session, same day client proof viewings will be provided in order to shortlist your favourite images for professional editing. I normally upload a couple of favourite images to our social media pages for a sneak peek which can be shared. Once editing and retouching of your images is completed, you will be provided with a password to view your images in your private online gallery via the client portal on our website. From here, you can choose your favourite high resolution digital images by clicking the heart icon. You may also wish to purchase some wall art which can be purchased separately.
